A serviceman called back and explained that the lever on the back wheels has to be in the locked position for the scooter to move under power. The lever is just for moving or braking when not under power and must be in the locked position when operating under power. Sure enough, it worked!

If you are lucky to get a good scooter... Everything is pretty much said in the title. It's awesome. It's super light. It's not a wheelchair! one does need a certain sense of balance to operate it. It easily fits in the trunk of even a compact car, and, even a slender woman can lift it there.
